Seamount Biodiversity

The currents and upwelling of nutrients occurring in seamounts creates optimal habitat for a diversity of marine animals including corals and feather stars, as shown here in this image taken during a 2017 Okeanos Explorer dive on a ridge north of the Manihiki Plateau, in the south-west Pacific Ocean.
